"Our" pink color, mixed by Joshua
We've been working on kind of an ambitious project lately - trying to silkscreen our business cards. Last week we started out exposing our first screen. It worked out pretty well even if I had to rinse the screen for a very long time after exposing it. It's a very cool feeling when the motive starts showing up on the screen - sort of like the polaroid feeling ;-) I'm not sure if the screen somehow got exposed to too much light before the real exposure, if we exposed it for too long or if something else could have gone wrong as it was so hard to wash off..? Well, I guess that's things we have to figure out because it's way too expensive to let a printshop do these things, and it's also a lot of fun to be able to control the whole process (hopefully that will happen eventually!). The printing itself was a bit disappointing though as the acrylic ink we used clogged the screen, and the structure of the paper was too "bumpy"... We learnt some lessons and we "just" have to start making our screens ourselves (they're also really expensive to buy here!) and try again! Meanwhile, we might need to let somebody print our business cards "the traditional way" as we've now registered our company and are basically ready to go ahead with all the rest.

A corner of our studio is set up as a little print shop.
Close up of the screen before printing. We had to cover up little "holes" with a pen to avoid spots on the prints.

Making the ink thinner by mixing with some water.

And then Leo needed a change...

The result. Unfortunately it worked best when I by mistake printed on our printing board... Well, better luck next time, I hope.
PS. One new photo is added to Ezra's album.
